Feature and Follow #2 (8/2)

 photo FFbloglovin.jpg

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

This Week's Question is:
How do you handle a book you don't like? Do you DNF or do you power through?

If I only have a slight dislike for a character but like everything else about the book I will finish it. Which is what I do for the most part.
There has been only one book that I can remember not finishing and that is Port Mortuary by Patricia Cornwell the main character's personality and core values seemed to be changing in the last couple books and this one just threw it over for me. I was trying to give the series a chance to see if she would come back to the way she was in the beginning, but she didn't. She wasn't the character I fell in love with anymore. So I stopped reading.

Next Week's Question:
Back to school. Create a reading list for the imaginary English Lit class you’ll be teaching this semester.

  2. I'm sorry the series didn't work out for you. I really hate not finishing series, but sometimes it seems like the series becomes less about telling a story and more about getting a paycheck.

    1. I really dislike not finishing a series also, but I tried reading the book twice.. and still couldn't do it. The main character was just too different for me.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I'm mostly there because of the characters. Check out my FF, it's #16 :) (New follower)

    1. I guess I am too. If the characters don't hold me, then there isn't much reason to keep reading.

  4. Mostly I finish my books, but sometimes if I'm not enjoying it, I find it hard to finish. I read for enjoyment, not because it's a chore. If it's a review copy, then I will finish it though.

  5. I'm the same—i'll power through if there's at least one thing I like or find interesting in the book. I have a hard time not finishing a book or a series. I'm sorry to hear that one started to fall on the wayside for you. :( I hate when that happens.

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.

    1. For the longest time it was my favorite suspense/cop series.. right after Catherine Coulter's FBI Thriller Series but I tried reading it twice and just couldn't see the character that I started the book for anymore. I'm sure there are people out there that would disagree with my saying that the character changed, but for me she was choosing to do things or hide things.. and I couldn't see her making the same decisions in the earlier books. Was hard to wrap my head around a person's personality changing that much, when it doesn't normally change (or at least i wouldn't think so)..

      Sorry, ranting now..

  6. The books I DNF are usually books others have done the same to, so I don't feel so bad about doing it to them! It's when I DNF a book that so many like that I worry if I'm reading a completely different book!

    Happy Friday!

  8. Usually I will give a book 50-100 pages before I DNF if I'm not enjoying it. I used to power through but I no longer have the time and it turned reading into a chore. There are too many books on my tbr pile for me to feel guilty and I'm picky about what I read, so only have 1 DNF so far!

  9. I've DNF'd a few over the years, none since I started blogging (which wasn't very long ago)but generally I try to finish. If I'm really having trouble I'll set aside or DNF if its really bad.
